Commencement as well as all undergraduate convocation ceremonies will be held in the UCCU Center this year. As Accessibility Services staff, we want to make sure all campus guests are able to comfortably attend and support their graduates on this important day. So, here's everything you'd like to know about accessibility for UVU graduation ceremonies.
For graduates who are seeking accommodations for graduation, we will have an Accessibility Services Check-in Table right next to the main graduate check in, where they can connect with members of our staff who can provide their needed accommodations for their special day.
ASL interpreters are available at no cost to students and to campus guests. To request an ASL interpreter, please use this link Request an ASL Interpreter | Utah Valley University or reach out to dhhservices@uvu.edu.
There are wheelchairs available for free checkout for anyone who may need them next to the Ticketing Booth at the UCCU Center, which is located on the 1st floor. In order to check out a wheelchair, you must provide a government issued ID.
Elevators are located on both the north and south hallways of the first level lobby of the UCCU. Accessibility Services will have staff present and available at graduation to help direct individuals to elevators as needed. You can find the elevators by following the sidewalk to the right of the stairs (where graduates will be entering) and then continuing directly down the hall.
Accessible seating for those in wheelchairs is available for guests in upper sections of 9 and 12 at the UCCU. Each wheelchair accessible spot has two seats next to it for family members. Large groups should plan to identify two individuals to sit with a loved one in the wheelchair-accessible seating area but allow other close seats to remain open for others who may need accessible seating.
We will also be reserving the first few rows directly down from the wheelchair-accessible seating, still in the upper level of sections 9 and 12, for guests who may not be using a wheelchair, but are using a cane, walker, or have other mobility needs in order to minimize the number of stairs they need to navigate. Family members of those in the wheelchair seating may use these seats if there are none available directly next to a family member in the wheelchair-accessible seating.
Since graduation is considered open seating, we recommend those who have need for accessible seating plan to arrive early.
For accessible parking, click on this diagram or see image below. Those parking in the blue "Visitor Lot" who have disability parking placard will not need to pay for parking. If that lot is full, those with a disability placard can park in any available legal spot, including those in L4, L6, L9 and L10, which are normally reserved for UVU staff, without expectation of payment.
